Chemical Peels: Pre and Post Treatment Instructions

At Seaport Medspa, we offer a variety of chemical peels tailored to different skin types and goals. A chemical peel uses a carefully applied chemical solution to exfoliate and remove the outermost layers of skin, encouraging cell turnover and revealing smoother, more refreshed skin.

Because chemical peels vary in strength and depth, we provide general pre-care instructions below. Post-care will be personalized by your provider at the time of treatment to ensure the best results for your specific peel.

Pre-Care Instructions

Before Your Treatment

Following these steps will help prepare your skin for the best possible outcome.

Pregnant or nursing: Chemical peels are not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Cold sore history: Let us know if you are prone to cold sores. A Nurse Practitioner may prescribe antiviral medication in advance to prevent an outbreak.

Sun exposure: Avoid prolonged sun exposure for 7 days prior. You cannot be treated if you arrive with a sunburn. Always use SPF 30+ when outdoors.

Active ingredients: Discontinue products with tretinoin, retinol, AHAs, BHAs, salicylic acid, and hydroquinone for 3 days before your peel.

Clean skin: Arrive with no makeup, perfume, lotion, or powder on the treatment area.

Post-Care Instructions

Personalized Guidance

Because every peel is different in strength and formulation, your provider will give you specific post-care instructions tailored to your treatment. These will address:

  • How to cleanse and moisturize safely

  • Which products to avoid during healing

  • What to expect in terms of redness, peeling, and downtime

  • When to resume your normal skincare routine

Questions and Support

If you have questions about which chemical peel is right for you, or need clarification on pre- or post-care, the Seaport Medspa team is always available by phone, text, or email.
