PRF Hair Restoration: Pre And Post Treatment Instructions

Updated: Sep 3

PRF Hair Restoration Pre and Post Care

At Seaport Medspa, we offer PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) hair restoration, a non-surgical procedure that uses your body’s own growth factors to stimulate hair follicles, improve scalp circulation, and support thicker, healthier hair growth.

To ensure the best results and minimize side effects, please follow the pre- and post-care instructions below.

Pre-Care Instructions

7 Days Before Treatment

Make small adjustments to lower your risk of bruising and optimize your results.

  • NSAIDs: Avoid ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Naprosyn, and aspirin. Tylenol is safe to use if needed.

  • Supplements: Stop gingko, garlic, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, flax oil, curcumin, and other anti-inflammatory nutrients.

  • Systemic steroids: Do not use prednisone, dexamethasone, or other systemic steroids.

  • Alcohol and smoking: Avoid both, as they can increase your risk of bruising and delay healing.

Day of Treatment

  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water the day of your procedure to make your blood draw easier and improve results.

  • Clean hair: Wash your hair and scalp on the day of your appointment. Do not apply hair products such as gel, mousse, or hairspray.

Post-Care Instructions

First 8 Hours

  • Do not touch: Avoid touching, pressing, or manipulating the treated area.

First 24 Hours

  • No washing: Do not wash your hair for at least 24 hours. After this, wash gently and keep the area clean.

  • No hats: Avoid wearing a hat for the first 24 hours to reduce the risk of infection.

First 7 Days

Support healing and avoid anything that could interfere with results.

  • NSAIDs: Continue to avoid ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Naprosyn, and aspirin. Tylenol may be used for discomfort.

  • Supplements: Do not take gingko, garlic, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, flax oil, curcumin, or other anti-inflammatory nutrients.

  • Systemic steroids: Do not take prednisone, dexamethasone, or other systemic steroids.

  • Alcohol and smoking: Avoid both to support optimal healing.

  • Healthy habits: Eat a balanced diet and drink at least 64 ounces of water daily to aid recovery.

What to Expect

It’s normal to experience mild inflammation, redness, swelling, scabbing, peeling, and/or bruising for a few days after treatment. These effects are temporary and part of the healing process.

Ongoing Care and Results

  • Treatment series: PRF hair restoration typically requires multiple sessions to achieve optimal results.

  • Stay on track: Your provider will recommend a schedule, and we encourage you to book your next session during your visit to remain consistent.
