Seaport Medspa offers patients both JUVÉDERM®, by Allergan Aesthetics and Restylane®, by Galderma for dermal filler treatments. Dermal fillers restore volume, smooth wrinkles, enhance contours, and support facial balancing in areas such as the cheeks, lips, chin, and jawline.
To keep your treatment safe and to ensure natural, lasting results, please follow these pre and post-care instructions.
Pre-Care Instructions
1 Month Before Treatment
If you have an upcoming event, plan ahead so your results are healed and settled in time.
Special events: Schedule your filler at least 4 weeks before weddings, photoshoots, or other big occasions.
2 Weeks Before Treatment
Give your body time to heal from illnesses, procedures, or vaccines before filler.
Illness/antibiotics: Reschedule if you have a cold, COVID, cold sore, blemish, or rash. Wait until you are symptom-free and off antibiotics for 2 weeks.
Dental work: Avoid routine dental work or cleanings within 2 weeks before your appointment. Major oral surgery or dental procedures require 4 weeks.
Vaccinations: Do not schedule vaccinations within 2 weeks before treatment.
Autoimmune conditions: Let us know if you have an autoimmune condition or take immunosuppressant medications. You may need clearance from your physician.
Cold sores: If you have a history of cold sores, pretreatment with valacyclovir is recommended. Contact us if you need a prescription.
1 Week Before Treatment
Minimize the risk of bruising and swelling by avoiding things that thin the blood.
Alcohol and NSAIDs: Try to avoid alcohol and medications such as ibuprofen and aspirin (if safe to stop).
Supplements: Stop fish oil, Vitamin E, and other blood-thinning supplements.
Post-Care Instructions
First Few Days After Treatment
It’s normal for treated areas to feel different right away.
Tenderness and firmness: Expect some soreness or a firm feeling in the treatment area. This will soften over several days to weeks as filler integrates into the tissue.
Swelling: Temporary swelling is common and should resolve in a few days.
First 24 Hours After Treatment
Protect the treated area while the filler settles.
No touching: Avoid rubbing or massaging the area.
Activities: Resume normal activities, but avoid anything that puts direct pressure on your face.
First 48 Hours After Treatment
Your filler is still settling, so avoid things that increase swelling.
Exercise: Avoid strenuous activity, weightlifting, or high-intensity exercise. Walking is fine.
First 5 Days After Treatment
Flying can increase swelling or pressure, so wait a few days before travel.
Air travel: Avoid flying for 5 days after filler.
First 2 Weeks After Treatment
Avoid procedures or treatments that could disrupt or irritate the filler.
Facials and lasers: Wait 2 weeks before getting facial or laser treatments.
Dental work: Avoid routine dental work or cleanings for 2 weeks after filler. Major oral surgery or procedures should be delayed at least 4 weeks.
Vaccinations: Do not receive vaccinations during this time.
Ongoing Care and Results
Dermal fillers are temporary and require maintenance.
Duration: Results typically last 6 months to 1 year depending on the type of filler used and the treatment area.
Maintenance: Schedule your next appointment at the time of treatment to maintain your results.
